Know what I just did? I just voted in the primary! And for a refreshing change, my vote actually matters this time.

Seriously, I can't tell you guys how cool is for our state to actually be in play for once. In the general election, of course, everyone just assumes Texas will go republican, so no one wastes any time or money campaigning here. And usually the primaries are pretty much all sewn up by Super Tuesday so it's a moot point by the time our primary rolls around. The election judge said in one primary they had all of four people turn up to vote, including her.

Not this year, though. We've actually been getting robo calls and political ads. Political ads, ya'll! We never get political ads down here. And I got an Obama sticker after I voted. Whee!

And after the polls close tonight I'm going to the caucus. Yes, in Texas we have both a primary and a caucus, so we basically get to vote twice. Even though I'm quite sure it will be dull I'm still excited because I've never been to a caucus before.

In other exciting news, we're totally going to London this fall! I booked all our reservations this weekend so it's officially official. We'll be in London Oct. 11-18 and we've got tickets to David Tennant's Hamlet in Stratford on the 14th!

Hamlet, ya'll! With David Tennant! And Patrick Stewart as Claudius! I'm so excited I may actually split in half. I read an article on it a while back that said all it needed was Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan playing Rosencrantz and Guildenstern it'd be like a sci fi fandom supernova.

And as I told dutch38 last night, this is further proof that Texas is indeed another country.

Plus, the word "caucus" is awesome. I'm still debating on whether it will beat "widget" as my favorite word.

Oh, Hamlet! With Tennant AND Patrick Stewart! I'm envious. (Strangely, possibly more envious of your opportunity to see PS than DT.)

Actually, with the race as competitive as it supposedly is, I'll bet your caucus is raucous indeed. Can't wait to hear about it! Isn't it fun when your vote actually matters? I doubt it will last, but a lot of people around here dislike McCain enough that they're saying they'd rather vote for Obama. I suspect that they'll realize he doesn't have an R after his name by November, but the idea of our state being in play for the first time in 44 years kind of thrills me.

London--eeeeee! I just read that Patrick Stewart is bringing Macbeth to NYC, so I can't imagine they can get going on the Hamlet until the beginning of June. I don't know why it seemed like it was important for me to report that to you--anti-stalking hopes, perhaps? :)

Oh wow, this is getting crazy! You are now the third person on my F-list who's coming over from the States in October to see 'Hamlet'! If only I'd known in advance, I could have tried to organise you all into coming at the same time! ;)
