Okay, when Newt Gingrich starts making sense, you know shit is messed up.

"I think it puts into question all of the Homeland Security and Northern Command planning for the last four years, because if we can't respond faster than this to an event we saw coming across the Gulf for days, then why do we think we're prepared to respond to a nuclear or biological attack?" said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

That's priceless. Homeland Security is useless and a waste of money. Clearly.

::headdesk:: Oh GOD. I want to give Newt Gingrich a word up? And I don't even feel like I need to shower? You're right, Sus. You know this shit is fucked up.

I love this part: In Biloxi, Miss., Bush encountered two weeping women on a street where a house had collapsed and towering trees were stripped of their branches. "My son needs clothes," said Bronwynne Bassier, 23, clutching several trash bags. "I don't have anything."

"I understand that," Bush said. He kissed both women on their heads and walked with his arms around them, telling them they could get help from the Salvation Army. "Hang in there," he said.

Yeah. Great.

Wow. Just...sometimes I think he just doesn't understand poverty because he's never really seen it, but to be faced with that kind of destruction and to tell them to hang in there? *spits*

Exactly. Hang in there? I wonder if that poor woman told him that she's "hung in there" with her babies for four days and where the fuck have you been? Grr.

Makes you feel more than a little bit dirty, doesn't it?

From the SALVATION ARMY??? OMG, I have no goddamn words for this shit. No. Words. (And, yes, I realize that likely some of this rage is misdirected rage at the circumstances, but -- COME ON! Hang in there??)

My thought was that when Newt Gingrich is criticizing you, you know you're in trouble. But yeah, never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I agree with him. And now you know the world truly is coming to an end, when you find yourself agreeing with Newt.

Bush is saying the relief response is "not acceptable." Um, excuse me shithead, but you happened to have been in charge of that, in case no one told you. I don't care what they are saying about the governor has to request it or whatnot, I'm pretty sure there's a way the federal government is allowed to just step in.

I hate to say it, but does anyone else think that if the majority of people who were affected were white and middle-class as opposed to poor and black, the response would have been quicker?

B, I think it's a no-brainer that the response would have been swift and overwhelming if this disaster happened in the NorthEast or West or affluent areas of anywhere else. Bush doesn't get the 'poor and huddled masses' radar feed in Crawford apparently.

Uh oh. I agree with Newt Gingrich. That can't be right...

... and yet it is.

Geez, it does feel bad to agree with him. I think if these people hadn't been so poor, without options, a lot of them might not have been there. So losing their votes/support isn't going to hurt him...but he can't run again anyway. Already Faux News is accusing Dems of trying to make political gain over the situation. Again we can't criticize unless we are thought to be unpatriotic. Sigh.
