I have seen Serenity and it is... amazing.

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!111!

That's all that went through my head when the credits rolled at the end of the movie. It was all the coherent thought I was capable of. I won't post any spoilers, but it was... surprising. And fun. And exciting. And scary as hell. I laughed, I cried, I nearly peed my pants.

Definitely the best film I've seen all year. I mean, it looked like it was going to be pretty good, and I had hopes, but I had no idea it was going to be this good. Completely puts to shame every single major action-adventure blockbuster that's come out this summer.

It's like, if you took all the best elements of the original Star Wars trilogy (minus the wooden acting and lame dialogue) and mixed them with a healthy dose of Buffy's trademark humor and heart (minus the absurd plot holes and awkward action sequences). It sounds like it might be a little derivative, and maybe it is, but Joss does such a great job of bringing all the elements together in a fresh and compelling story that I don't even mind. For the first time in years, I remember how I felt back when I first fell in love with Han Solo.

So... you liked it then? ;)

I'm an admirerer of Joss Whedon but I'm not familiar with Firefly, do you think the uninitiated would get/enjoy the film?

Damn you spelling! Stop taunting me with my mistakes and the inability to edit them!

I think so. It felt like they did a pretty good job of introducing the setting and all the characters so everyone would know what was going on. Almost like they were making another 2-hour pilot.

And it's a very stand-alone plot that doesn't require any prior knowledge of the events of TV show. I imagine that some of the more emotional character moments might have a little bit less impact for someone who'd come into the movie cold, but I'm betting they'll still have some impact.

That's good to know, cause having no prior knowledge was what was holding me back from running right out to see it.

I've been trying to catch it in reruns on Space but they seem to air it at a different time every day or every couple of days so you're always just missing it. Damn you programming bastards.
