Put on 3-D glasses now

A Post for the New Year in Bullet Points:

- Happy 2006! May all your wishes for the new year come true, and may it be happier than 2005.

- Christmas in the Sus household was lovely and mostly stress-free. Plus, I got lots of sweet loot, mostly in the form of a giant stack of DVDs (mostly television shows), so I can knit and watch my way through 2006.

- New Years was wonderful, what with a visit from austin360 and dutch and dutch's friend J who was delightful. We ate way too much good food, saw Bob Schneider (Bob!), went to Austin, saw austin360's brother's band play in a skeezy biker bar, came back to Houston and spent a lovely New Year's eve watching Sports Night (shoe money tonight!), playing poker and listening to Richard (the friend who stayed with us during Hurricane Rita) play guitar.

- Also, weirdly, I don't think I've ever mentioned here that Richard's actually been living with us for like the last three months. He broke up with his old girlfriend and needed a place to stay until he could work out another living arrangement and he's just now moved into his new place. I guess I never posted about it because he used my computer all the time and therefore had access to my LJ and I would have felt weird if he'd seen that I was writing about him. He was a completely inoffensive house guest and the munchkin adored him, so it was no biggie, but it's nice to have it be just us in the house again. And to be able to fill up the guest room with crap, because everyone knows that's what guest rooms are really for.

- After months of labor, I managed to finish austin360's Gryffindor scarf in time for Christmas, and it turned out quite well, if I do say so myself. I may make myself a Slytherin scarf one day, but I need to take a break from the tedium of scarves for a while.

- I finished my Bubblefic! Go me! Now I just need to let it sit overnight before I take a last pass at it. And if anyone has time to do a quick beta pass for me I'd be most indebted. (It's BSG if that matters.)

- Save Our Bluths was the most awesome potential last episode of a television series ever aired. By the time Judge Reinhold walked in I actually had to pause the TiVo so I could clutch my stomach and try to recover from laughing so hard.

- I'm making a big pot of chili, despite the fact that it's currently 79 degrees outside. Ah, winter in Texas.

That is all.

The parade of celebrities was awesome. When Belzer walked in, I about died.

It was like they called in every favor EVER..

"Hey, you like our show? Got a tux? Come on down! No. we can't pay you!"

"The OCD." "Don't call it that."

So. Awesome. I'm totally watching it again tonight.

It's a most *lovely* scarf, Sus. I heart it so much. Thanks again for such a rockin' gift.

I used Knitpicks merino, which was lovely and soft and affordable, and I'm way sad that they don't have a good Slytherin green. What yarn did you use when you made your Slytherin scarf?

Ooooh, pretty! Elann is one of the ones I'm considering. I'll have to send away for a color card to check out their greens.

The merino I used is sport weight so if can find a worsted or DK weight for my next one it'll feel downright speedy to knit.

That is the most gorgeous scarf ever! Beautiful.

I'm going to miss Arrested Development. "No, the HBO's not gonna want us." "Well, I guess it's show time." Bwah!

It makes me so sad, but I keep telling myself that they lasted longer than Iever expected. At least we got half of a third season.

"Who threw that tomato?!"

I can't take it as consolation that it's lasted longer than it should have... we shouldn't be reduced to accepting the 10 season run of Everyone Loves Raymond and then be thankful that we got 40-some episodes of the most brilliant show ever. Grrrr... I hate Fox. And CBS. And, let's face it, NBC & ABC as well.

Ah, but you're forgetting one of the most basic facts of life: people are stupid. Therefore they are incapable of appreciating a smart, subtle show like AD and must resort instead to watching lowbrow fare like Raymond because their tiny brains can't handle anything else. And this is why I hate them all.

It's not that I forgot that, it's just that I supressed it. I can't deal with it anymore. I wish television was good again, I wish Mitchell Huriwitz and Aaron Sorkin ruled the world.

Glad you all enjoyed the holidays. It's 75 degrees here today. I feel like I'm in Texas. Heh.

The scarf looks great! I was telling austin last night that my sister made me an original style Gryffindor scarf a year or so ago, but she's getting ready to make me one like this. You can never have too many scarves, right? ;)

I love scarves! I really need to make some for myself, but they just take so long. Also it's hardly ever cold enough to wear them down here.

Ooh, your scarf looks fantastic!

I've just ordered in a bunch of yarn for my own Gryffindor scarf. :D *can't wait to start knitting it*

Thanks! There is something very comforting about having a simple, straightforward project like a scarf to look forward to working on.

Love the scarf! It's beautiful!

And how skeezy was the bar compared to the one austin360 took mcsister and me to last year? I'm dying for austin to answer this one. Hee!

Thanks!

I think austin360 said your bar was even skeezier. No one took their shirts off while we were there, but a couple of drunk biker ho's almost got into a fistfight.

Yeah, as far as skeeziness goes, I think the one that I took pookha and mcsister was worse. I wish he'd get some better gigs, dude.
