In which I bitch about the Olympics

I'm just gonna come right out and say it: I hate the Winter Olympics. Seriously, there is not a single sport that really interests me much. So far I've seen approximately 30 minutes of snowboard cross, 20 minutes of figure skating and 10 minutes of women's bobsled. All of it bored me to tears. And NBC's coverage makes my eyes roll back in my head. I've probably watched a total of three hours of their coverage so far and of that only one hour was of actual competition footage.

Worst of all, though, is that there is NOTHING ELSE ON! No one wants to run new episodes against the Olympics so everything's either a rerun or pre-empted entirely so they can show Final Destination 2. Kill me now. Thank god for Grey's Anatomy, which continues to rock my world (and manages to kick the Olympics' ass in the ratings while it's doing it).

And no new Veronica Mars episodes until March 15??? Gah! Is UPN actively trying to make me go back to watching Lost? I guess that's better than the rumor I heard before, that it was on hiatus until April, but still. I NEED MY VERONICA MARS FIX!

I too, hate the Olympics. Bored now.

If you wish to avoid Lost, there is always Bones, which while fully mockable, still provides excellent David Boreanaz lusting opportunities (among others, see GIP)

As to VM, I've finally bought the S1 discs. I'm completely out of the loop for S2, though, as I'm waiting for the DVDs so I can watch all at once.

I love Bones! It gets recorded on the creaky old VCR while Veronica Mars is being TiVoed. But, sadly, it's been on hiatus over the Olympics, too.

Ok, wasn't sure. I can't see it because we don't have a VCR that will record anymore and despite my best arguements, Hubby insisted Lost win over DB. I am, however negotiating to get a smaller Tivo for upstairs for those "late night feedings" that are coming.

I hate the Winter Olympics.
Amen

Luckily for my sanity, here they DO run shows against the Olympics (and even before) such as House, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, etc.

And luckily, they end soon.

Winter Olympics has taken me that much further away from the 3/12 ep of West Wing. So blah on The Games.

I hadn't heard about VMars returning on March 15. This is very, very good news. *squee Logan!*

Yeah, it could be worse. First it was March 1st, then people started saying sometime in April, which nearly killed me. March 15th isn't that far away, I guess.

The problem with the winter Olympics is NBC... they don't understand how to cover sports, they certainly don't understand that there are countries in the world other than the United States and therefore cannot produce coverage that's interesting just because the only U.S. athlete in woman's freestyle aeriels skiing played out of metal contention... for example.

That said Freestyle Skiing Aeriels are where it's at, especially when one of the Australians snapped her knee graph and screamed as she slid all the way down the hill.

But yeah, if I was confined to basic cable or U.S. channels I'd be sad. And what the hell was up with showing Final Destination 2? Why!?

Yeah, part of what I like about the Olympics is being able to see random underdog countries competing in random sports you'd never see otherwise. But NBC spends most of their air time trying to make stars out of a select few athletes in a few select sports instead of just showing as many different competitions as they can pack onto the airwaves.

If I wanted to watch pseudo-celebs twirling around in sparkly costumes I'd be tuning in to Dancing with the Stars or Skating with Celebs--both of which are on tonight against the Olympics! ARGH!

Oy. There is definitely a problem with network television (as we've all known for sometime) when the only things that can be shown are those two, CSI and Grey's Anatomy reruns. Fuck, why do they always have to cancel everything good and then give us 5 different CSI and Law & Order spin-offs, there's more to life than crime.

Let's get our baseball bats and visit some network execs.

Yeah, what she said, especially about NBC. During the last Summer Games we were outside of Quebec for a week so got two Canadian channels plus the States' NBC affiliate. It improved the watching tremendously.
I must admit I prefer Winter Games to Summer. I try to ignore the ice skating and watch speed skating, snowboarding, the various ski/jumping sports. I would like it if they showed the whole or most of a particular competition, but I am seeing a whole lot more emphasis on non-USAers this time around(Hurray!). The best part for me is that I can tune in for 20 minutes then turn it off and do something else.

Though I usually love the Olympics, I have yet to see one minute of coverage of the Torino games. I blame Michelle Kwan; with her out of the games, I lost all interest in the figure skating and apparently, the rest of the sports, as well.

I hate what they're doing with the VM schedule--my poor little brain is having a seriously difficult time keeping track of what's going on when there are weeks and weeks between new episodes.

The VM schedule is really wrecking havoc with my brain's ability to remember and concentrate on the season-long mysteries, that's for sure.

And I've been watching since early December and I've gotten--what?--like, three new episodes?

I was surfing the net and I came across your post about Veronica Mars. In case you haven't heard, MarsInvestigations.net started a $4,000 Shower, Season 3 postcard campaign. Considering the low ratings for the past few episodes, this show needs all the support it can get.

If you're one of those fans who think VM's renewal is guaranteed, then you should read our "Season Three - No Guarantee" page.
