Figaro! Figaro! Figaro! Figaro!

Don't you hate it when LJ logs you out and you don't realize it and you go like a day and a half only reading the unlocked posts on your flist? Stupid LJ.

Last night we took the munchkin to see The Marriage of Figaro at Hermann Park. It was a lovely night and we had a nice picnic on the hill before the show with a couple of her friends from school and their mom. The girls weren't overly excited by the actual opera, though, not that I expected them to be. But they made it through the end of the second act, which was more than I expected. I was relieved to leave, though, because it's actually kind of annoying listening to your name sung over and over operatically. Afterwards we brought the girls back here for a sleepover and, oh my god, ya'll, the shrieking and the giggling. I knew there was a reason I stopped at one kid. But the munchkin had fun, so it's all good, I guess. Only I am TIRED today and I have a knitting date this afternoon.

Wonderful happy birthday wishes to kelbelle and chrisleeoctaves!

A couple former co-workers of mine and I recently decided to start knitting together on Sunday afternoons as a way to get a break from our offspring and significant others. We're going to work our way through Freaks and Geeks as we knit and when we're done with that we're going to start on Popular, so it should be a fun time all around.

I'm still knitting the same baby blanket I took to Sundance because I've been a very bad knitter lately. I tend to slow down when there's good television on and then pick up momentum in the summer when everything's in reruns. But the baby it's for was just born last week, so I need to get a move on.

I almost always have the TV on when I'm knitting, but I'm not great with the paying attention to both at the same time, so I prefer to knit during either reruns, shows I don't care so much about, or DVD commentary tracks. I can't knit during new episodes of shows I'm really into, like Veronica Mars, because I'll either miss important stuff on the show or screw up my knitting.

So towards the end of the TV season when things are getting exciting, I don't often reach for my knitting, but then as soon as summer kicks in and it's all stuff I've either seen or don't really care about, I'm all abot the knitting. I just placed a big Patternworks order for several new projects worth of yarn and I have a feeling my Buffy and Angel DVDs are going to get quite a workout this summer once the doldrums set in.

That's exactly how I am with TV and knitting. I don't knit with new shows because I'll get distracted. I'm looking forward to getting back in the knitting groove now that the season's almost over because I've got a baby blanket to finish, and the beautiful baby it's for is over 4 months old now!

And someday you'll read it over and over again as a murderer! Or a murder victim, I guess, but that's not nearly so fun.

I'm so not kidding about having dropped six stitches during the Veronica Mars finale. And yet I somehow knit right through the end of Grey's Anatomy with no trouble. There might be some hidden meaning there...

What did you order from Patternworks, hmmm? What are you starting next? :wriggles with vicarious knitting delight: I'm at that stage of finishing up about five projects (felting, putting on trim, sewing on buttons, etc.), so I'm chasing my (substantial) tail in a circle dithering about what to do next. I think I might put in an order for yarn for Certain Secret July Projects and then try to get the teeny baby bolero from One Skein Knitting done before the new yarn gets here...:wanders off musing about yarn:

I'm doing the Stitch 'n' Bitch kitty hat for the munchkin (which I'm hoping to get done before Comic-con in case she wants to wear it there), and a pair of striped socks for myself, and some cottton chenille flower-shaped washcloths I've been dying to try out. All thanks to my wonderful birthday benefactor! *smooch*

:smooches back at you:

I *cannot wait* to hear what you think of the chenille--it is a tempting fiber. I'm thinking of making a Jolly Roger washcloth for DaneyBoy, so let me know if you like the Patternworks chenille.

The kitty hat should be a huge hit--didn't you say the munchkin is currently into some hero cats? Or...something? And it's Jason Dohring's fault? Or...something? Googling what I thought you called the cats tells me that this wasn't actually what you were calling the cats. I may have been having an aneurysm at the time.

Heck, I'm her mother and I can barely keep up with what she's into at any given moment. I do know that lately she has been obsessed with both a) Neopets (which are the fault of Jason Dohring's father and his evil Scientology-supporting company); and b) Warriors, which is a series of books about gangs of feral cats.

Oh! I'm feeling so smart and non-aneurystic--I'd actually found and rejected Warriors because of the lack of Dohring connection. Neo*cats*, however, is not the same as Neopets, and brought up some rather odd German websites.

Also, I am deeply amused with the fact that the Wikipedia entry on Neopets warns me that the entry may contain "weasel words." I know what they mean, and that they are trying to be serious, but it makes me giggle.
