We stopped in New Orleans on the way home and stayed in a lovely old hotel in the French Quarter (which supposedly has two ghosts!). We took a horse and carriage ride in the rain, strolled over to Cafe du Monde for cafe au lait and beignets, and then drove out to Mr. Sus' uncle's house for homemade gumbo and bread pudding. The next morning we did a little more sightseeing around the Quarter, had a ridiculously delicious breakfast (what is it about New Orleans that the food is so good everywhere you go?) and then stopped off at the cemetery on the way out of town. Still not sure if I actually want to inter my mom's ashes in the tomb, but at least now I know what to do if I ever do decide. Oh, and we drove into Breaux Bridge on the way home for a fantastic lunch at Mulate's. So now I am simultaneously sick of eating cajun food and itching to cook some myself.
And now there's only a week left until school starts and I can't quite believe the summer's already over. I'm so not ready to start getting up early and making lunches and driving the munchkin to and from school. I want more summer!
