Why This Must Be Read: I'm not even particularly fannish over Mad Men and I definitely don't ship Don Draper with anyone, much less Peggy, and yet ... this fic gets to me. It's beautifully written and perfectly in character, showing a glimpse of the characters' future that is both bittersweet and absolutely believable. Told from Peggy's POV, the narrative bounces back and forth between two time periods, one a decade after the events of the series, the other two decades. The author captures both periods perfectly, sprinkling in references to things like Ms. magazine, Tavern on the Green, the New York Athletic Club, and the Not-Ready-For-Primetime Players to root the story firmly in its settings. Neither Peggy nor Don have compromised, or even changed that much over the intervening years, but they've found peace and a kind of happiness, even though they're both still haunted by the secrets they keep. And the cameos from Roger and Pete and Don's kids are so exquisitely rendered it's worth reading for those alone.
"You have nine letters in your name and seven of them are problematic."
Edited to add: If you go read it and like what you see, don't forget to feed the author. Comments are love.
