God, I love Austin! Every time I go back to visit I remember what a great town that was.

I meant to post this yesterday, but the munchkin got a new computer game and I didn't have the heart to kick her off my computer.

We rolled into town Saturday noonish and met austin360 at Curra's for lunch--avocado margaritas and tacos al pastor. Mmmmm. Then we went to the Dragon's Lair so Mr. Sus could look at D&D books. It was austin360's first experience with a comics/gaming store and I think she found it... educational. Do not suspect that I drooled over the upcoming Angel: The Curse comic while we were there. Shut up.

By then it was time to check into our hotel, which was right on Town Lake. We dutifully admired the view, dropped off our bags and headed back out to Amy's Ice Cream.

Me and austin360 at Amy's:

Mr. Sus and the munchkin (note the woman behind them who is wearing the EXACT SAME SHIRT as me--quelle horreur!):

While we were in the neighborhood we drove by our old house, which looks exactly the same. We also stopped by Toy Joy for a good long browse. Yay toys!

Me and the munchkin wearing funny sunglasses:

Then we went back to the hotel for a bit of rest. There was a huge high school reunion going on there so it was total madhouse (and we had the pleasure of listening to 80s music blaring into our room until 10 p.m.) I took the munchkin down for a short walk by the lake, while Mr. Sus and austin360 watched Lilo & Stitch.

At dusk we all walked down to the Congress Street bridge to watch the bats. After that, it was out to The County Line for barbeque and then back to the hotel where we hugged austin360 goodbye.

Sunday morning started off with breakfast at Kerbey Lane--migas and pancakes. Mmmmm. Then we drove the munchkin up 2222 to show her Mr. Sus' old office building and went to the top of his old parking garage to check out the spectacular view.

View looking towards town (his office was right on the shores of Lake Austin):

Mr. Sus and the munchkin pose with his Mini Cooper:

View of the 360 bridge:

On the way back we stopped off at Mount Bonnell:

View looking down the stairs from the top of the hill:

After that we went back into to town and hit Book People, where we spent way too much money. Then we went across the street to Waterloo Records and spent even more too much money. But I got a Scabs album (Bob!) and a Stereophonics import CD single which has the U.K. B-side, "Long Way Round," that I've been trying to find forever (the one that was used on Ewan's TV show).

Then around the corner to Zanzibar, our favorite furniture/import store, where we bought a cool pendulum mobile of St. George and the dragon (when you swing the pendulum his sword arm moves!):

After that, we drove by the State Capitol:

And then it was back on the highway and home.

Also meant to cheer for this. Why haven't I made myself a Ewan icon yet? I need to do that.

Mt. Bonnell! The 360 Bridge! Kerbey Lane! Zanzibar! I totally should have hung out with y'all on Sunday. Instead, I found myself alone in the friggin' *office*.

It was so, so wonderful to see y'all on Saturday. You guys should come to Austin more often, now that the munchkin wants to live here...

You definitely should have. It would have been better than working for sure. Better yet, you should take a week off and just come hang in Houston with me and relax.

Don't *tempt* me, Frodo!

Oh, y'all look so great!!! Can I come live with you for a while? I have great romantic fantasies about Texas. I even have boots, which I hear is a pre-rec.

And how cute is the munchkin with her tooth! ::loves::

Sure, we love visitors! I love living in Texas, but I must admit that I don't own boots, nor even a hat.

I remember when the munchkin was just wee and Mr. Sus didn't even have a Mini. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I must know, did you spew any obsenities or blow raspberries at the Capitol as you drove by? A little "Suck it!" for old times' sake?
Jun. 22nd, 2005 03:22 am (UTC)
We didn't, mostly because there was no one around but tourists and we didn't want to seem unfriendly. But we did pause to wax poetic about the good ole "suck it" days.

Your child is huge! And I mean that, of course, in all the positive ways. Kids with missing teeth are like the most adorablest things evah.

(Wow, the spell check offers "detribalized" as a correction for adorablest. Now I have to go look that up.)

Also, I believe that is the first picture of austin360 I have actually seen. You blew her cover, muwahaha. Don't worry, I won't stalk her much.
Jun. 22nd, 2005 08:14 am (UTC)
Oh, "tribal", okay. That seems obvious now.
Jun. 22nd, 2005 12:42 pm (UTC)
Ah, you've sussed out my evil plan! I did ask her first, though, before exposing her secret identity.
Jun. 22nd, 2005 12:52 pm (UTC)
Oh my goodness! How cute y'all are! (though I already knew that about darling austin. :) But it's nice to have a face for you too now.)

And it sounds like such a fabulous trip you had.

::Sigh:: I want a real vacation.
