First Tigger, then Piglet. Eeyore's gotta be feeling just a little nervous right now.

Caught the King Kong trailer last night. You know, I don't get the whole King Kong thing. It's one of those movies that certain people--mostly guys--seem to fall insanely in love with. The original King Kong inspired both Ray Harryhausen and Peter Jackson, decades apart, to become legendary filmmakers. And my dad absolutely adores it as well. I remember him showing it to me when I was a kid, and he kept going on about the beauty of the film, and the heartbreak in the gorilla's eyes, and I was like, "Whatever, it's a big monkey." There must be something there that I'm just not getting.

So when Peter Jackson said his first post-Rings project was going to be another Kong remake, I was not exactly jumping up and down. I am, however, extremely interested, because it seems like Kong is sort of a guy thing, but this time Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are doing the screenplay, and I can't wait to see how it comes out. I get the sense from both of them in interviews that they sort of share my "whatever" attitude about Kong and are humoring Pete a bit in all this. I'm really hoping that under their influence I might actually *get* the King Kong thing for the first time.

And the trailer, I gotta say, looked pretty cool. Very mythical and exciting. Sort of like Lord of the Rings set in the 1930s. Only with giant monkeys and dinosaurs instead of orcs and trolls. Sweet!

Re: the King Kong trailer. Maybe it's the whole Jack Black thing that I'm not really down with, but I was expecting more. Or maybe it's because I'm so interested in Peter Jackson's next project and when I think of Pete, I think of big and beautiful sweeping epics. I thought it looked pretty interesting for the most part (and I'm so glad that Ringo was smart enough to record it for me). And who can resist Adrien Brody?

Would you be interested in seeing the LOTRs exhibit again? I want to head down there, likely after you and Mr. Sus have come back from CA, to check it out. Let me know. If not, it's cool. I'll drag The Kid.

No, I'll totally go again. I've been meaning to go back at some point, when I could look at everything without the munchkin constantly telling me how bored she was.
