The first stop in our trip down memory lane is The Official West Winger’s Dictionary, courtesy of those wild and crazy peeps at the Testy Toads Message Boards. Special props to gaggit for originating the list and for letting me repost it on jedbarlet.com oh, so many years ago.

angst-ridden Josh [TM Susannah] - the deliciously tasty flavor of Joshuagoodnes found in "Crackpots" and "Noel."

Back that ass up! [TM kappagrrl] - what the Harem screams when Josh walks by. Inspired by a very special photograph of Brad taken by kappagrrl at a Rock the Vote event.

Bartlet Babes - a group of multi-generational women extremely dedicated to taking care of POTUS' every need, praising his name and his works, defending his honor, and, above all, drooling over the man.

Bartlet pair - POTUS and FLOTUS

Bartlet Smackdown [TM Grasshoppergirl] - one of Jed's rants. i.e. "You can all get your fat asses out of my White House."

bat wing - Mandy and her fine whine

bottom'sup - the official toast of the Harem

carrier wing - the CJ/Toby disorder. Symptoms include excessive yearning, some hankerin' (and chicken can be involved here) and occasional pining. See: Yearning, the.

Crackpots straight jacket - 1: what members of the Harem end up in when they misplace their reality. 2: the fashion accessory that helped Wingnuts survive The Summer That Would Not End.

chicken wing - 1: a reluctant staffer who tries to avoid doing something unpleasant. 2: any winger who is afraid, very afraid, of the lunacy generated here.

DannyFans [TM McGarry] - the non-gender-specific name for the followers of Fishboy.

Danny's Girls - the few, the loud, the enlightened. Commonly found doing the Fishboy Dance.

evilocity [TM Susannah] - the inherently Richard Schiff quality of mischievously taunting Wingnuts. i.e., "RS missed another online chat this week, so I just signed up for AOHell for nothing! The man is just brimming with evilocity."

Fishboy Dance [TM kappagrrl] - a celebratory dance invented by the Danny's Girls upon learning that their beloved Fishboy did not in fact kick the bucket in the season two premiere, as some very mean members of the anti-Danny contingent were trying to maintain. FISHBOY LIVES!!! FISHBOY RULES!!! FISHBOY ROCKS!!! {commence dancing}

funky chicken wing - a good/bad dance/groove exhibited during "The Jackal."

Gail quest - 1: Danny's attempts at winning C.J.'s heart. 2: the prop department's search for a new Gail when the old one goes belly up

Ham and Cheese [TM dutch] - the two morons in "And It's Surely to Their Credit," Steve Joyce and Mark Brookline, who were mean to Ainsley and then got a mini-Smackdown from Sam and Lionel.

Harem - 1: the swooning minions devoted to the Dimpled Brad. 2: the hordes of lovestruck young girls who follow Josh around telling him how excellent he is and asking him to sign their George magazine.

Harem Globetrotters - the official basketball team under the able direction of Josh Lyman.

Horsepersons of the Anti-Yearning Apocalypse - founded by McGarry and Bgirl, the Horsepersons have dedicated themselves to eradication of the Yearning and can be found galloping through the message boards, clopping coconuts, with their "There Is No Yearning" banner unfurled.

hot wing - whenever Josh or Sam take their shirts off in an episode

Jackal cackle [TM gaggit] - 1: C.J.'s fantastic laugh. 2: that noise we make as we LOL at the absurdity generated here in West Wing World.

Joshuagoodness [TM redbird] - long, lean, and lanky frame; a forehead that wrinkles when he talks; a killer smile; dimples to die for; the voice which is so expressive, especially in "come-to-bed" mode [TM UJ]; the way he gets wet in the rain rather than carry an umbrella; the backpack with the baseball cap hanging from it; the swagger when he walks; his smartass sense of humor; his creative intellect; the way he taps doorjambs when he leaves a room; the sweetness that he tries to cover up; the vulnerability beneath his bravado; his loyalty to friends; the way he stammers when he gets flustered; the sense of a big ol' puppy dog in a man who is comfortable with power; the way the tile in his shower needs regrouting. left wing - what Moira Kelly has done.

long, lean and lanky package [TM Pokey] - a phrase appearing in Mama Pokey's original definition of Joshuagoodness, causing much tittering and giggling among the Harem. The phrase was edited out by an embarrassed Pokey, but it has been etched into our collective consciousness.

Lymanaide [TM gaggit] - 1: the official drink of the Harem. 2: Harem members who help Josh's body man watch his back (a very desirable position).

Lyman Jell-O [TM gaggit] - The state that Josh ends up in after an encounter with the lunatic lady.

Lyman pledge [TM gaggit] - 1. the note Josh wrote to Donna in that dusty, old book. 2. dutch's I'm-buying-stock-in-kleenex [TM gaggit] version of what Josh's note may have said.

Mandyism - anything said in a whiny voice that no one cares about.

Mmmm. Joshuagoodness. :yummy: [TM Susannah] - the mantra that escapes the lips of Harem members just before {swoon}{THUD}.

Nix Meetings Before Lunch [TM Pokey] - the episode in which The Famous Susannah totally stole the show with her phone call, not to mention her little love scene with Josh: "Hey, Susannah." [TM Brad Whitford] {smile}{swoon}{walk away before falling over} [TM Susannah]

order of wings, an - the somewhat ambiguous senior staff pecking order.

Osh Josh B'Gosh [TM gaggit] - the delightful sight of Josh in Sam's foul weather gear.

Pop Tarts [TM redbird] - the faithful followers of the beloved Toaster. See also: Schiffaholic.

pre-Wing thing [TM gaggit] - Borrowing (in the interest of full disclosure, it should be shamelessly ripping off) material from "Ed," which now (thank your appropriate deity here) airs before WW.

redwings - wingers of the fiery redheaded persuasion. (That Detroit hockey team will just have to find a new sobriquet, or else they'll just have to share.)

Schiffaholic [TM Bgirl] - a devoted fan of all things Richard. See also: Pop Tarts.

'sup? - 1: a contraction for "what's up." 2: Josh Lyman's appetizing question du jour. 3: the official Harem greeting.

take wing - a typo for tape wing

{THUD} - 1. The sound of Harem members hitting the floor while musing (pun intended) on the Dimpled Brad. Caution: could result in a serious "wing ding." 2. acronym for Thinking Hard Uhbout Dimples.

Toaster [TM alanao] - 1: Toby. 2: the one who warms the buns of the Pop Tarts.

water wings - devices Josh needs to negotiate the press pool

West Wing World - the land of Wingnuts and Wingers and redwings and Lymanaides and carrier wings and Pop Tarts and all things West Wing.

wind beneath my wings - 1: Josh, Toby, Leo, Donna, C.J., POTUS, Sam, Charlie, Margaret, GINGER!!, Cathy, Mama Landingham, Bonnie, Larry, Ed, Donnie, Abbey, Zoey, Joey, Kenny, etc. (Did they ever know that they're our heroes?) 2: the staffers who help POTUS keep the country flying. 3: our favorites who help keep the salad forks, vermeil, and occasional ceiling chunks flying as we reach new heights of lunacy.

wing adjustment - an apology issued after getting all Ramboed up because you forgot to order bromide.

wing ding - the red welt on Sam's head after it has impacted a bar bell.

winged out - a state induced by West Wing withdrawal. May involve serious side effects.

Wingers - 1: See: Wingnut. 2: Mrs. Landingham's cookies

wing glasses - 1: Josh's shades. 2: what the Harem drinks Lymanaide out of.

wing it - 1: what the Harem members do with chunks of the ceiling when the Pop Tarts invade the Josh thread. 2: what Wingnuts do with salad forks and vermeil when they disagree.

wing man - body man

Wingnut - what Entertainment Weekly dubbed rabid fans of The West Wing.

wing quip - 1: a witty rejoinder spouted by a staffer. 2: a WW quote used for communication between wingers.

wings of gold - our favorite WW episodes

wing span - those seven long days from Wednesday to Wednesday

wing spread - 1: what Josh puts on the finest bagels and muffins in the land. 2: what Sam is trying to avoid by going to the gym. 3: what my posterior is doing while I sit here at the computer reading the message boards instead of going to the gym with Sam.

wing thing - an ambiguous event. i.e., Josh and Toby gotta see a guy about a thing.

wing tip - spoiler

wing walk - 1: one of the famous West Wing walk-and-talks 2: staffers walking at 33 1/3 rpms and talking at 45 rpms.

Yearning, the - a certain vibe between C.J. and Toby. Originates from comments made by Richard Schiff on The Rosie O'Donnell Show.

Zieglerfield Follies - when Toby's plans go awry, like the toast in TSD.
